Raglan Football Club Inc Soc

Raglan Football Club is an incorporated society with charitable status and is run by a committee that is elected at the Annual General Meeting.  The Club bank account is 38 9020 0118189 01

We a responsible for football in Raglan for all ages but are principally involved with junior players in the 4 – 13 age range. Youth teams (age 13-18) play through Raglan Area School but the the two organizations work together to ensure all players in the community have a team to play for.

  • We are the only club west of the deviation so we are committed to finding a place for every child that registers
  • All players get equal time on the pitch at RFC
  • Every coach attends a minimum of the basic coaching course

FIRST KICKS


Teams play at our home hub of Paphua Reserve - Saturday morning

Three times during the season, Raglan is invited to play (along with other teams from within the region) in Hamilton for the day.

The coaches are responsible for organising and leading training exercises to develop players skills.

Parents will be encouraged to support their child/ren during these exercises in a positive manner.


FORMAT

    Each week, teams do 2 Skill Activities (8 mins each) followed by two 8-10 min games. 


    KEY POINTS

    • 4-6 years old
    • 4v4 format (recommended)
    • 2 x 8-minute games
    • No goalkeepers
    • No offside rule
    • No throw-ins or corner kicks
    • Ball kicked/dribbled back into play
    • No published match results or ladders


    KEY SKILLS

    • General Movement: Activities like tag, hopping, and running games to develop basic physical literacy.
    • Football Coordination: Games involving dribbling, passing, and controlled kicking to build a sense of control and ball feel.
    • Football Technique: Drills focused on kicking accuracy, receiving, and basic dribbling skills.


    ACTIVITY EXAMPLES

    • "Runaway Trucks": Players dribble with a ball, avoiding obstacles (like cones) to develop dribbling and agility.
    • "Bowling Ball": Players practice passing the ball to each other while moving, emphasizing communication and ball control.
    • "Knock Out": A game where players try to knock out other players while dribbling, promoting quick reactions and ball control.
    • "Jungle Time": Players dribble through a series of cones while listening to a "Jungle Time" song, encouraging a fun and engaging way to learn dribbling.
    • "Traffic Cops": Players are "traffic cops" directing other players through a course, encouraging them to follow directions and learn traffic rules.
    • "Space Invaders": Players use a ball to "shoot" at targets, encouraging accuracy and coordination.
    • "Football Rush": A game where players try to score by kicking the ball into a goal, emphasizing kicking accuracy and goal-scoring.
    • "Flag Tag": A fun way to develop running speed and agility while also engaging in a team activity.
    • "Stuck in the Mud": A game where players who are tagged become "stuck" and need to be helped by others, teaching teamwork and problem-solving. 


    GUIDELINES

    • No competitive game
    • Children play together informally to meet the personal/emotional needs of the youngsters Lots of chances to score goals and enjoy mini-challenges Encourage participation in a variety of additional activities to develop physical literacy (e.g. running, jumping, throwing, etc)
    • Parents and game leaders bring out the fun of football by guiding and supporting their children to understand the basic rules of first kicks football


    Fun Games & Activities

    The McDonalds Junior Football fun games/activities play a major part in each session. Please use them and support the development and enjoyment of our future footballers.

    Our goal is to enthuse young players so that they fall in love with the sport and stay in it for life. These activities offer volunteer coaches with a variety of fun games, each focusing on a particular technical outcome. Every activity is an opportunity for young children to take part in fun, enjoyable football games that will develop them as players and people.
