Raglan Football Club Sustainability Policy

Purpose

Raglan Football Club is committed to protecting our environment, supporting our community, and reducing waste. As a coastal town with a strong connection to nature, we recognise our responsibility to minimise our impact and lead by example.

Our Commitment

We aim to reduce waste and promote sustainable practices across all club activities. A key focus is the responsible use of team apparel and equipment, recognising that sports uniforms can contribute significantly to textile waste if not managed carefully.

Club Apparel Approach

To support a low-waste, community-focused model, Raglan Football Club will:

  • Avoid permanent personalisation - Club garments will not include individual player names or excessive seasonal branding. This ensures items remain usable for many years.
  • Design for reuse and longevity - Apparel will be simple, durable, and timeless in design, allowing it to be passed down between players, siblings, and future generations.
  • Encourage reuse within the club - The club will promote systems for returning, reassigning, or swapping uniforms each season, extending the life of each garment.
  • Minimise unnecessary purchasing - Players and families will be encouraged to use existing garments where possible and only purchase new items when needed.

This approach reflects circular economy principles in sport, where products are used for longer and kept in circulation to reduce waste.

Wider Waste Reduction

In addition to clothing practices, the club will:

  • Encourage recycling and responsible waste disposal at all events
  • Reduce single-use items where possible
  • Promote environmental awareness within the club community

Community Responsibility

Raglan Football Club values its role within the Raglan community. By reducing waste and sharing resources, we support affordability, inclusiveness, and environmental stewardship for current and future members.

Ongoing Improvement

We will continue to review our practices and look for opportunities to improve sustainability outcomes across all areas of the club.
